Vimeo allows you to embed videos on your website using a simple sharing tool, accessible by clicking "Share" under any video. However, to include Vimeo videos in compliance with GDPR regulations, a few small adjustments are needed.

Here’s how to embed Vimeo videos on your GDPR-compliant website:

Solution 1 – Automatic Scan

You can use the advanced "Cookie Shield" feature, which can automatically detect Vimeo and similar software. By setting the scanner to "Learning" mode and browsing your site as usual, the system will identify embedded content and help ensure privacy compliance automatically.
Alternatively, you can choose manual configuration.

Solution 2 – Manual Configuration

Part 1 – The Vimeo Embed Code

Go to Vimeo and open the video you want to embed on your website.
Below the video, click on the "Share" button.

A window will appear with the embed code, typically an iframe, allowing you to adjust size, colors, and other settings.

Whether you choose to embed the video using the provided iframe, or a direct link via a dedicated plugin, you need to make one important change:
Add the parameter &dnt=1 to the end of the src URL of the iframe (or link). This enables Vimeo’s “Do Not Track” mode.

For example, change the src from:

to:

Part 2 – Declaring the Cookie with My Agile Privacy

In your WordPress admin panel, go to My Agile Privacy → Cookie List from the left menu.
Here, you will find a list of cookies imported during the plugin installation. Initially, these will appear in draft status.
Publish only the cookies relevant to your website.

On this screen, you'll see several columns:

  • Cookie Name: the name of the cookie
  • Is Necessary: indicates whether the cookie is essential to site functionality. If rejecting the cookie prevents the site from working, it is considered essential. This will be pre-filled in the details.
  • Auto Update: indicates if the cookie reference text is kept up to date automatically. With "yes" enabled, reference texts are auto-updated for GDPR compliance.
  • Installation Type: shows the method of inclusion for the cookie. This may change depending on your setup and is explained further in the guides.

To declare the presence of Vimeo videos, search for "Vimeo Videos (Vimeo, LLC)" in the list.
Switch the cookie status from "draft" to "published".

Conclusion

By following these steps, you’ll properly notify users about Vimeo videos on your site. With the &dnt=1 parameter added, these videos will not set tracking cookies.
